The Prineville area is known for outstanding rockhounding, people come to the area from all over the country to try their luck, and in June, Prineville hosts the Crook County Rockhounding Pow-Wow Festival at the Fairgrounds!

The area east of the Cascade Mountains doesn't receive the heavy snowfall of the mountain regions of Oregon, but it does get some snow in the winter. The spring and autumn are gorgeous, and the summers are warm and sunny. 

The cool semi-arid climate here is within the 6a-6b  growing zone, so you may need to cover your spring garden starts from late frosts.
