The elevation is about 4600 ft, so you do get some snow in the winter, but the summers are warm, pleasant, and not too hot. The roads are gravel, country roads. We made it easily without 4 wheel drive, but make sure you have a high clearance vehicle. 

This area is very popular for hunting, fishing, boating, rockhounding and all kinds of outdoor recreation! OHV/ ATV riding is very popular here! Ochoco Reservoir, Lake Billy Chinook, Smith Rock State Park, Prineville Reservoir State Park, and Haystack Reservoir are all nearby. There is so much to within a short drive, this would make an excellent base-camp or gathering spot for family and friends to meet and explore all that Crook County has to offer!
